How do I update jewellery prices on my website every day with the gold rate?

Short answer

To keep jewellery prices in line with the daily gold rate, calculate each price from the metal weight, the day's rate, making charges, stone cost and your markup, then update the store. Small catalogues can do this with a spreadsheet and CSV import. For many variants, an app such as MetalIQ by DCPL can recalculate every Shopify variant from one daily rate and preview changes first.

Set up a clear pricing formula first

Whatever method you use, write down how a price is built. A common structure is metal weight multiplied by the day's rate for that metal and purity, plus making or labour charges, plus stone or diamond cost, plus your markup, plus applicable tax if your prices include it. Store the weight and other inputs for every variant, because a ring in 14K and 18K, or a chain in different lengths, will have different weights.

The manual method for small catalogues

  1. 1Keep a spreadsheet with one row per variant, listing its weight, purity, making charge, stone cost and markup.
  2. 2Each morning, enter the day's metal rates in one cell and let formulas calculate the new prices.
  3. 3Export your products from Shopify as a CSV, copy the new prices into the price column using the variant SKU to match rows, and import the file back.
  4. 4Check a few products on the storefront before you start taking orders.

Where the manual method breaks down

  • Dozens of products with several metals, stone sizes and lengths mean hundreds of variants to update daily.
  • One wrong cell or a mismatched SKU can publish a price far below cost.
  • Updating takes time every day, including holidays and festive seasons when rates move and demand is high.
  • There is no easy way to undo a bad update if you did not keep the old file.

Automating it on Shopify

MetalIQ is a Shopify app built and operated by DCPL Technology for jewellery stores. You enter the daily metal rate once and it recalculates prices for existing variants across metals, centre-stone sizes and lengths using product weights. It shows a preview before publishing, has hold limits that stop unexpectedly large changes until you approve them, and can restore the prices from before a completed run. Scheduled nightly repricing is available on higher plans. MetalIQ is on the Shopify App Store with a free plan and paid tiers. It prices the variants you already have; it does not create product options.

When to get help

If you reprice more than a handful of products, or a pricing mistake would be costly, automate the calculation instead of relying on daily spreadsheets. You can try MetalIQ directly from the Shopify App Store, and DCPL Technology also builds custom Shopify work for jewellers whose pricing rules need more than an off-the-shelf app.
